Connect the Dots.

Updated: Jun 21, 2022

Most communication professionals love being a part of big bold community-based engagement programs that signal action. Programs designed to inspire encouragement while providing health and wellness solutions are truly worthy causes.

Those programs that help vulnerable populations are the biggest win-win scenarios for everyone. Unfortunately, we often see organizations launch new initiative after new initiative without a clear understanding of program goals or measurable activities.

In an effort to avoid new-initiative-launch fatigue, provided below are a few easy steps to help connect the dots and explain the effectiveness of programs over time.

Begin With the End in Mind. What are the goals of each new initiative and how will you know when you’ve accomplished identified goals?

  • Is there a dollar amount each new initiative plans to raise?

    • What does the organization plan to do with the funds raised if applicable?

  • Consider creating a new website or a new webpage to an existing site, that will help connect the dots through storytelling.

  • Plan to send a press release when major program milestones are reached.

  • Another powerful way to provide increased value to community engagement projects is to add strategic partners who also believe in the underlying cause.

At the end of the day doing good work and helping those within vulnerable populations who rely on others is its own reward. However, if we are to tout our great deeds early and often, at the very least we should ensure that the programs we launch go beyond photo opportunities before launching another.
